With regard to hair colouring if I were in the business I would start by looking at the properties of
henna which doesn't use a chemical agent and remains as a colour long after 5-10 washes - in fact as I recall it grows out rather than washing out. Maybe something could be extrapolated from henna's properties to give you what you are looking for.
